Archduke Franz Ferdinand's assassination
When the Archduke of Austria-Hungary was assassinated by Gavrillo Princip, it caused an uproar in Austria-Hungary and Europe. Austria Hungary felt violated and furious that anyone would dare to oppose them. -
Sinking of the Lusitania
The Lusitania was sunk by a German U-Boat in 1915, which was one of the key parts toward getting the Americans to join the war. The Lusitania had 142 American casulties. -
Sinking of the Sussex
Once the Sussex was torpedoed, there was more international uproar and the Germans passed the Sussex pledge. The pledge stated that a U-Boat would give warning before firing a torpedo. Once the US joined the war, the Sussex pledge was thrown out the window. -
The Zimmerman Telegram
The Zimmerman Telegraph was a telegraph sent from the Germans to the Mexicans. It said that the Germans would ally with the Mexicans to help defeat the Americans, and in return, they would get guns, money, and keep part of American land. Mexico didn't accept, for they would get crushed by the US. -
America declares war on the Central Powers.
America gets finally pushed into it by the Zimmerman Note. Woodrow Wilson was very opposed to going to war, but he couldn't hold it back anymore. The US could really be endangered by the war, and if the British hadn't intercepted the note, the US could've suffered many casulties. -
US enters the first World War
The US entered the war out of fury over Lusitania and the Zimmerman Telegraph, and the US started stockpiling supplies, soldiers, and transport vehicles. -
WWI Ends
Germany surrenders in 1918. The German Kaiser stepped down from his throne and left all the deciding to the German Government. The German Government asks for an Armistice and Surrenders. -
Treaty of Versailles
The Allies meet to discuss peace in Europe. During the meeting, Wilson presents his famous Fourteen Point Plan, and wins little support. Even though his plan was supported, a League of Nations was created. It did little to stop WWII.
