Germans created gas warfare first. They used mustard gas. It would sometimes make you blind. This tactic was very smart in the trenches.

Sinking of the Lusitania

The Lusitania was a British passenger ship. It also had many Americans onboard. The Germans shot the ship out of the water with U-boats. They were German submarines. This made U.S. angry. This event put the U.S. closer to declaring war.

Wilson reelected; pledged American neutrality

Wilson was a Demarcate. He wanted neutrality in the war. He didn't want to spend the money or people in a war.

Zimmerman Note

The Zimmerman note was from the Germans to Mexico. The British intercepted the note. It said that the Germans wanted Mexico to attack the U.S. because the Germans didn't want American power Against Germany. This made Wilson and American angry. However most American thought it was just propaganda.

Treaty of Versailles

The Treaty of Versailles was the most important of the peace treaties that brought World War I to an end. The Treaty ended the state of war between Germany and Allied Powers.
