    Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria-Hungary and his wife were assassinated on June 28, 1914. They were assassinated by a member of the Black Hand terrorist group from Serbia. The assassinate, Gavrillo Princip was only 19 years old. This event essentially led to the start of World War I.

The French won because of defensive attempts and the involvement of Germany in two wars.
