When the American ship's crew failed to reach the order of dropping their cargo as contraband, the German captain ordered the ship to be destructed. -

The message read that if Mexico allied with Germany against the United States, Germany would offer financial aid and promised to restore its lost territories of Texas, Arizona, and New Mexico.
