Assassination of Archduke Ferdinand
Ferdinand and his wife went to visit Bosnia. A bomb is thrown at their vehicle but it misses. Their visitation continued until they were killed by a lone assassin. Believing the killer was a Serbian nationalist, the Austrians targeted Serbia. -
Austria Strikes
Austria-Hungary determined that the proper response to the assassinations was to prepare for a possible military invasion of Serbia. Austria-Hungary declared war on Serbia one month after the Ferdinand murder, which immediately started WWI.
