    Trench warfare was a new way of fighting where both sides would dig a trench and hide in it to avoid being shot and when the other side would try and push them back they could just mow them down with machine guns. Trenches caused many deaths form dysentery and Trench foot as well. Trenches stretched from the north sea through Belgium and France.

    F Franz Ferdinand was an Austrian official that was assassinated by a Serbian terrorist. F Franz Ferdinand was like a prince to the Austrian people. Tensions were high between Austria and Serbia already but the assassination was the last straw and started a war. Between them.

    In the early 1915's Germany declared unrestricted sub warfare in the water's around the British isles and said that the German navy would attack any ships that enter this area even if they are neutral. The Germans sunk many ships in this time and sunk some American vessels including the Lusitania angering Americans and spurring them into the war.

    John was on guard detail for three days. Guard detail gets very little sleep and what they do get is a few hours off guard where they have to stay in the guard tent at all times this is also where they keep prisoners it is an 8 person tent with no cots and there are 14 people in there trying to sleep in a trenchant rains.

    When John and his group was sent over seas to join the fight 10 cruisers accompanied them to make sure the ship was not sunk and they would actually make it to the fight.

    In April 22 1915 the Germans used more than 150 tons of deadly chlorine gas agents the french in Ypres Belgium. This caused much destruction and confusion.

    Cooties were referring to an insect that spread like wild fire in the trenches it would irritate the skin and make it itch. Friends would pick the largest ones off of you before bed and they would be back the next day.

    Near the front line there is always a German plane flying around at night. Tonight a German plane was flaying around and dropped some bombs before he was shoot down.

    At the front lines we are not allowed to drink any of the water for fear it is to contaminated by the chemicals the Central powers has released. We would drink beer when we can but don't always get fluids.

    Treaty of Versailles
    The treaty of Versailles was signed on June 28 1919 and took effect January 10 1920. This put restrictions on Germany's military and blamed them for the war and made the pay for it.
