Japanese invasion of China
Japanese leaders thought that they wanted to gain more land by occupying other countries. They invaded China because they were excited for China's broad natural resources. Japanese military killed almost 300,000 civilians and despoiled 80,000 women. Many Chinese people were killed because of the random bombs that were thrown in the cities by the Japanese troops. -
Germany's invasion of Poland
This war was a starting point for world war 2. Hitler wanted to have more land in the east. He invaded Poland to have more land to make Germany larger according to the Nazi policy of lebensraum. They defeated Poland by using the Blitzkrieg tactic. Germany had 2,000 tanks and 1,000 planes that tapped out through polish defenses. -
German Blitzkrieg
Germany Blitzkrieg tactics overshadowed Poland, then stooped and crushed Denmark, Norway, and the Low Countries in April-May 1940, and France in June 1940. This tactic was made to occupy enemy areas utilizing speed. Also it was a military tactic made to build confusion against enemy forces. U.S and British journalists made the word Blitzkrieg more attractive. -
Operation Barbarossa
The soviet union was invaded by the German forces. The German-Soviet pact was signed in less than 2 years. It was a name given to Nazi Germany's attack of Russia. Operation of Barbarossa was situated on a massive attack. It was branched from the Baltic sea in the north to the Black sea in the south. Russia was able to attack back and break Germany. Hitler's mistake was to invade Russia. It ended in 1943. -
Pearl Harbor
Japan drives a surprise attack on American naval base at Pearl Harbor. It attacked Pearl Harbor before 8 AM by sending hundreds of Japanese planes. 1,000 American soldiers were injured and more than 2,000 soldiers were killed during the attack. The crossfire lasted for 2 hours. Many Americans were killed and ships were ruined. This happened because Japan had magisterial aspirants in the Pacific. U.S asserted war on Japan after 3 days. Manhattan Project
it was created in 1942 to make the first U.S nuclear gun. The Manhattan Project was an unseen military project. It was first tested on Alamogordo, then on New Mexico on July 1945. This bomb blocked war between 2 countries. Little Boy and Fat Man are 2 of the 4 weapons that were produced by Los Alamos. One of the most arguable issues of the 20th century is the drop of the atomic bomb on the 2 cities which are Hiroshima and Nagasaki. It stops the fighting between the 2 countries. Ended in 1946. -
Bataan Death March
This happened when the Japanese strained over 70,000 Filipino and American prisoners to move 60 miles from their point of capture to prison camps. They were handeled to inhumane medical care, this developed in the death. If prisoners were not able to walk they were killed. A huge number of prisoners passed away before reaching the prison camp. Only 54,000 prisoners were able to reach the camp. -
Battle of Midway
The U.S invaded Japanning one of the most crucial naval battles of WW2 after 6 months of the attack on Pearl Harbor. The U.S was able to take and oppose Japan's planned trap of its little remaining aircraft careers. In the Pacific campaign, an important turning point was when the victory admitted the U.S and its allies to move into an insulting area. Japan had a main goal during WW2 and it was to get rid of the U.S as a Pacific power to increase territory in East Asia. 4,800 men were killed. -
Battle of Stalingrad
This battle happened when Germany attacked the Soviet Union. It was one of the bloodiest battles in history. Russians thought that it would be the greatest battles of their Great Patriotic War. This battle blocked the German leading into the Soviet Union. Hitler wanted to invade the Soviet Union. Germany lost and cities were damaged. -
Warsaw Ghetto uprising
Jewish ghetto in Nazi occupied Warsaw during WW2. Revolts in extermination camps and ghettos throughout German were inspired by Warsaw ghetto on occupying Eastern Europe. It began when German troops and police enrolled the ghetto to banish its surviving inhabitants. Germans crushed the ghetto area and left it in ruins. 10,000 Jews in the Warsaw ghetto were killed during the deportation operations. -
Operation Gomorrah
The attack was on Hamburg, and it was Britain and America's attack. By night in Operation Gomorrah, British bombers attacked Hamburg, Germany. It lasted for 3 nights. Hamburg was defended in a good way. More than 30,000 of people were killed and 280,000 of buildings were destroyed. 167 civilians had just go through death in Britain. -
D-Day
The allied military overpassed the English channel and settled on the beaches of Normandy. They landed in Normandy, France to battle Germany. The Nazi occupation during WW2 made the allies invade Germany in France, and this happened to make the mainland Europe free from the Nazi's occupation. 13,000 aircrafts and more than 5,000 ships promoted the invasion. At the end, Normandy beaches were rushed by the allied troops. -
Battle of the Bulge
The Germans started the last dominant abusive of the war on this day.This battle happened to open the Allied armies and also to push the allied front line west from northern France to northwestern Belgium. 250,000 soldiers were thrown by the Germans into the initial assault. In Europe, The Western Front was the largest battle that was fought during WW2. The allied lines performed in a huge bulge when the Germans went broader into the Ardennes. A huge number of people from the U.S were killed. -
Operation Thunderclap
It was strategic bombing invasion against the German city of Dresden. This happened to end the transport infrastructure back of what was becoming the Eastern front. On the night of 13 February, the operation opened with 2 isolated British attacks. 800 tons of bombs were dropped on the first blow. Almost 35,000 people were killed. -
Battle of Iwo Jima
It happened when the 3 U.S marines settled on Iwo Jima. Iwo Jima was protected by 23,000 Japanese army and troops. The americans had a three-point plan to win the war in the Far East. Japan were not able to use the air field because the air fields were shut down since U.S won. 5,900 people were killed and 17,400 were injured. -
Battle of Okinawa
Okinawa was invaded by the Allied forces. This was the biggest battle of WW2 of the Pacific island. 287,000 troops of the U.S 10th army were implicated in the Okinawa campaign, while Japan had 130,000 soldiers. The U.S wanted a base to get ready for the planned invasion of Japan. More than 77,000 of Japan troops were killed. Many troops were killed from both sides. -
VE Day
Britain and U.S perform Victory in Europe Day on this day. Cities in Western Europe put out flags and banners because of the defeat of the Nazi war machine. This happened when Germany was strained to surrender. In Berlin and Eastern Germany more surrender documents were signed. 13,000 British POWs were ordered back to Great Britain -
Dropping of the atomic bomb
The worlds first displayed atomic bomb, was thrown by an American bomber over Hiroshima. 90 percent of the city was cleaned and 80,000 people were killed from the explosion. the second bomb was thrown on Nagasaki after 3 days of the first bomb and 40,000 people were killed. 28,000 buildings remained after the bomb. The atomic bomb was used to stop the war and save people's lives. Little Man is a name given to one of the bombs, and it was used against Japan. -
Bombing of Hiroshima
The world's first arranged atomic bombs dropped by an American bomber over the Japanese city of Hiroshima. At 8:15 in the morning the bomb collapsed over Hiroshima. The atomic bomb was known as "Little Boy". 70,000 people were killed. This happened because this city was comparatively untouched during the war. Two thirds of Hiroshima was destroyed and 60,000 buildings were smashed. -
VJ-Day
On August 14 it was spread around that Japan had abandoned completely to the allies, it finally ended WW2. August 14 and 15 are 2 days that were known as "Victoryover Japan Day". This word was also used for September 2 when Japan's formal surrender captured area abroad the U.S.S Missouri, which was in Tokyo Bay. Truman declared this day at a White House press conference. -
