Versailles Treaty
After WW1 the main nations of the war met up to make a treaty. In this meeting only the allied powers were allowed, not the axis. This led to the axis powers being forced to agree to the treaty without having a say in it. Germany was blamed for the war and was forced to take full responsibility. This led to German resentment, allowing Hitler to come to power. -
Battle of France
German armies invaded and attacked France after their failed attempts before then. This led to German control of France. The Germans occupied the north and west of the country, and established the Vichy government in the south and east. -
Battle of Britain
The Nazi army made a plan to invade Great Britain by attacking their Air Force. The Battle lasted July- September, but the British armies successfully fought of the Nazi army. -
Lend Lease
Concerned about the rise of the axis powers, FDR wanted to support the allies. He signed in the lend lease that allowed him to aid the allied forces with war supplies. -
Germans Invade Soviet Union -Operation Barbarossa
Hitler had been planning to invade the USSR for a long time as he wanted to get "living space" for the Germans. The Nazi army carried out a surprise attack, the Soviets attempted to fight back but were not very successful. -
Normandy. Campaign - D-Day - Operation Overlord
The allied troops wanted to regain control of France from Germany. They planned an invasion of Normandy, France, and it was a success. -
Ardennes Alsace Campaign - Battle of the Bulge
The Germans planned an attack in the Ardennes and Alsace forest. The allies found out about this and went to fight them off in the forest, they were successful. This is the last battle before the Germans surrendered. -
Yalta Conference
This was a meeting of World War II Allied leaders. They discussed what would happen to Germany and it's territory and about how to end the war with Japan, the Soviets agreed to help with the war with Japan. -
Iwo Jima Campaign
The USA had been successful in island hopping and finally wanted to capture the Iwo Jima island. The USA army invaded, there were many casualties but the USA ultimately won. -
Japanese Surrender
After the Potsdam Conference, Japan did not agree to surrender, so the USA dropped the 2 atomic bombs on them. This forced them to surrender soon after, ending WW2.
