Italy and Germany attack Yugoslavia

German and Italian troops attacked Yugoslavia.German field Marshall Erwin Rommel led the axis powers back to North Africa.

Bombing of Pearl Harbor

Japan launched a suprise attack on the US Naval Fleet in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii,
The US declares war on Japan the next day on Dec. 8th.
Three days after US declares war on Japan, Germany and France declare war on the US.

Battle of Stalingrad

Germany begins a battle in Stalingrad, Russia. This battle lasted for 6 months and takes hundereds of thousands of lives. The Russian army finally defeats Nazi Germany.

Allied forces capture Italy

Allied forces capture key spots in Southern Italy.
Italian Dictator, Benito Mussolini, is overthrown and imprisoned.

D-Day

The allies launched an attack on Germany's forces in Normandy with over 160,000 Allied troops and 30,000 vehicles, Western France. Germany thought they had the Allies fooled with a false location but the Allies formed a solid bridgehead and they fought off the German troops.
