    assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand
    On June 28th 1914, Heir to the Austro Hungarian thrown ,Archduke Franz Ferdinand. Along side his wife were assassinated by Bosnian Seperatist and member of the Black Hand, Gavrillo Princip. The assassination is what started the chain of events that eventually lead up to World War 1

    Austro Hungarian declaration of war
    On July 28th, 1914. Austria Hungary offically declares war on Serbia one month after the assassination of Franz Ferdinand. This is what began the domino effect as Russia declares war on Austria Hungary and then Germany declares war on Russia and so forth.

    On August 4th 1914, Germany began an invasion of belgium in part of what is known as the "Schlieffen Plan". The plan consisted of an Invasion of Belgium to get around Frances defenses in the German-French border. However Belgium resisted the German invaders in what is known as "The Battle of Liège".

    On August 26, 1914. The German Army launched a counter attack on Russian Imperial Forces in East Prussia, The Battle lasted 4 days and was a major German victory. The battle resulted in the destruction of the Russian Second Army and the Suicide of Russian commanding general Alexander Samsonov.

    On September 5, 1914. After successfully pushing through Belgium. The Germans begin their invasion of France with the intent to take Paris within 40 days and knock France out of the war. The French and British forces were overwelhmed by German divisons and were forced to retreat to the Marne what is now known as "The Great Retreat". However, due to a successful French and British counteroffensive. The German armies were forced to retreat themselves as they were at risk of an encirclement.

    The Galliopli Campaign was the first major campaign in the Middle East by Allied forced. the invasion sought to weaken the already weak Ottoman Empire who had joined the war on the Central Powers side. However the allies were meet by strong Ottoman resistence and the whole campaign was a faliure.

    On May 7th, 1915. German U-boats sank the RMS Lusitania. A civilian ship that contained civilian passanger when it was sunk. The sinking killed over 1,200 people including 128 American citizens.Tthis marked the beggining of Anti-German sentiments in America.

    On May 23rd, 1915. Italy formally joined WW1 on the side of the Allies and declares war on Austria Hungary with the intentions to gain land from Austria Hungary.

    On Feburary 21st, 1916. Germany begins a major assualt at the French town of Verdun to weaken the French army and run down as much of the French man power as they can. The battle lasted over 2 years and is one of the longest and bloodiest battles of the war.
  • The Battle of Jutland

    On May 31st, 1916. The British and German Navy began the biggest Naval battle of the war. the Battle was fought over the German naval blockade of Great Britian and resualted in a truce. This was the last time there was a Naval battle between Germany and the Allies in WW1.

    On July 1st, 1916. The British Army begins an assualt on the German Army at the Somme River to stear the away the German offensive at Verdun. The battle is one of the deadlies battles in human history with over 300,000 casualties. This battle also saw the first use of a new artiliary weapon called the "Tank".

    On March 15th, 1917. Tsar Nicholas II of Russia abdicates after mass protest of the Russian Goverment and now are under a Provisional Goverment, and eventually a Communist Revolution under Vladimir Lennin.

    on April 6th, 1917. America offically Declared war on Germany after they had sent a telegram to Mexico asking them to join the Central Powers.

    On March 3rd, 1918. Russia finially broke after 4 years of war and were forced to sign the Treaty of Brest-Litovsk. they were forced to give up land and resources to the Germans. Which now Germany could send those troops to the Western Front to fight in France.

    The American entry in the war made the German cause long gone since the Freshly new American troops would destroy the already tired and weakend German army. so the Germany Army knew the only way ton win the war was to get the Allies to surrender before the Americans could arrive. these series of attacks used all of Germany resources and manpower and eventually The Americans would still arive before the Allies surrendered.

    On The 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month of 1918. both Allies and Central Powers agreed to a Armistace to discuss peace and to end World War 1.
  • The Treaty of Versailles

    The Treaty of Versailles
    The Treaty of Versailles offically ended World War 1 as both allies and central powers signed the treaty. Agreeing that Germany would take all the blame for starting the war and caused all the destruction caused by war. Austria Hungary was broken up. Russia was forced to Give up Finland and the Baltic states. Germany was forced to give up land to France and Poland as well as paying war reperattion.
