    Introduction of World War I
    The major players of World War I were: Germany, Great Britain, Russia, Austria-Hungary and United States. Some of the most known causes of the war were: Nationalism, Imperialism, Militarism, Alliances and the Assassination in Sarajevo. These are the places the war took place: Western Front, the Eastern Front, and the Italian Front. These are some of the events that happened towards the end of the war: the Russian Revolution, and the German surrender. These are important facts.

    These are the main causes of the war. Militarism is the policy of glorifying military power, and keeping an army prepared at all times. Alliances is a union or association formed for mutual benefit, especially between countries or organizations. Imperialism is a policy of extending a country's power and influence through diplomacy or military force. Nationalism is an identification with one's own nation and support for its interests.

    After the Archduke Assassination there was a world war. World War 1 began on Aug 4, 1914. This war lasted until 1918. Germany invaded Belgium during this war. This war was Central Powers against the Allied Powers. This is what happened when World War I began.

    Trench Warfare was a form of military conflict in which each side would fight each other from trenches which were underground but facing each other. The living conditions in the trenches were terrible. Soldiers often got high fevers and also suffered from painful foot infections called trench foot. This happened from standing in the mud and cold water that came from the bottom of trenches. Soldiers often caught lice from living in trenches.

    Everyday life changed after the United States entered the war. The great Great Migration happened in 1916 and ended in 1920. 10% of Southern African Americans migrated to Northern cities. Life changed and took jobs of American Expeditionary Forces men. The war definitely impacted people. It really changed their lives.

    Zimmerman Telegram
    The British gives Wilson the Zimmerman Telegram. Zimmerman Telegram was a secret diplomatic communication issued from the German Foreign Office. This message is from German secretary, Arthur Zimmerman, on Feb 25, 1917. The message asking that Mexico side with Germany. They did this in case of war between Germany and the United States.
  • United States Joins the War.

    United States Joins the War.
    On April 6, 1917, Congress confirms declaration of war against Germany. This happened because it made the eventual defeat of Germany possible. If the United States went to war in 1916, the Allies military effort against Germany would be upheld by U.S. supplies and by huge extensions of credit. The United States joined World War I but is on the side of France and Britain. The United States Joins the War.

    The Germans signed a peace treaty with the government of Russia. The terms of the treaty gave Germany land that had been owned by the Ukraine and Poland. Peace on the Eastern Front that allows Germany to send soldiers to the Western Front. This causes problems for the French, British, and Americans. Germans sign a peace treaty.

You can use this card at many stores, businesses, and restaurants. Veterans who have this card won't need to carry around their military discharge papers. This is also used to prevent sharing sensitive personal information to receive discounts.

    An Armistice is signed ending the war. This day is November 11, 1918. World War I resulted in 15 million people dying. Armistice day celebrates the soldiers who participated in the war. Armistice Day was changed in the United States to celebrate all veterans from all wars.

    The Treaty of Versailles was the peace treaty that ended World War I. This Treaty ended the war that lasted 1914-1918. The treaty was then given to Germany in 1919. At that time Germany was blamed for the war. This is the treaty of Versailles.

    Forbes Allan gets a letter from John J. Pershing. He got this letter on February 28, 1919. The letter is about John J. Pershing congratulating Allan about the war. This letter after the war ended. It was a farewell letter.
  • Honorable Discharge

    Honorable Discharge
    Forbes Allan received his honorable discharge. An honorable discharge is when you met or have exceeded the conduct and performance standards in the military. You are made eligible for all veteran benefits when and if you receive an honorable discharge. Some of the benefits you get require an honorable discharge, such as Post 9/11 GI Bill and the Montgomery GI Bill education benefits. On the back of his honorable discharge shows his enlistments.
