The Alliances
These alliances that were created before WW1 are what eventually cause WW1. The alliances were; Britain, France, and Russia joined in Triple Entente, while Germany, Austria-Hungary, and Italy joined in Triple Alliance. -
Imperialism during WW1.
Imperalism was another cause for the beginning of WW1. Because one nation would take over anothers land, this easily turned from a local conflict to a global one. -
Militarism before WW1
Militarism, before WW1 started, was already thought as a higher power. Citizens thought that people in the military were superior, they were respected and glorified. Nations used their military to define their status of greatness, Germany thought that having a strong military would show their power. Because of this it made different nations suspicious of eachother which lead to the great WW1. -
Nationalism during WW1
Nationalism gave that nation's citizens the confidence to join the army and fight for their country. -
The Assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand
The assassination of these two people were the last strings to be cut to set off WW1. Archduke Ferdinand was the heir to the throne for Austria-Hungary, Princip had shot and killed the Archduke. Austria then blamed Serbia for his death, Austria declared war on Serbia which led to WW1. -
Germany's Blank Check
This was the pledge of Germany's unconditional support to Austria. They agreed to side with Austria even if it led to war with Russia. -
WW1 Begins
World World 1 was a great devastation to many countries around the globe. It all started when Austria and Serbia decided to got to war with each other. Serbia had initiated its army to mobilize to start the war, within a week Russia, Belgium, France, Great Britain, and Serbia had all come together to go against Austris-Hungary who had Germany on their side. -
Sinking of the Lusitania
Almost a year after WW1 had started a German boat shot a torpedoed at the British Lusitania, 1,100 people died on the ship. About 100 Americans died on the ship, this lead to America changing their views about Germany. -
Zimmerman Telegram
British cryptographers had deciphered a German telegram to Mexico saying that they were offering U.S land to Mexico in exchange for allegience. -
Germany's Resumption of Unrestricted Submarine Warfare
Germany determined to win this war, dicided to torpedo other ships even though they were unarmed. This made America break their relations to Germany and join the fight against Germany. -
US Joining the Fight
U.S Senate and House of Representatives vote to go to war with Germany. The U.S reinforced the strength for the blockade of Germany, they also paried up with British troops which helped to make a turning point in the war. -
Effects of WW1
The effects of the Great War were devastating. The total of military and citizen casualties was 41 million, there was over 18 million deaths and 23 million wounded. Austria, Germany, Turkey, and Russia all went into a downfall after the war. Colonialism also stopped after the war. With all the military troops traveling around the world, it caused an outbreak of influenza which killed millions. Lastly an Economic imbalance happened leaving Britain in debt and put the U.S in the lead. -
Rise of Hitler
The rise of Hitler all started when he joined the political group DAP. He had originally just wanted to help improve the economy and Germany itself, he then started calling out the Jewish people, saying that they should blame them for Germany's economic failure. This was the start of the second world war. -
Treaty of Versailles
This treaty was a sign of peace after WW1 between the countries that were at war. Through this treaty Germany had to agree to many things that they didn't want to some of these things were, they had to pay for the damage caused, they lost territory, they also lost a lot of armed forces. Because of all this they lost a lot of it's power and the economy weakend. -
Dawes Plan and Young Plan
These were plans an attempt to solve the reparations that Germany had to pay for. Dawes plan was to lower the costs that Germany had to pay until their economy went back up. The Young plan lowered the total cost of reparation costs. -
Great Depression
The stock market had crashed and the economy of the U.S plummeted. More than 15 million people were unemployed, thousands of banks had also collapsed. There were even drought condititions that worsened because of poor farming.
