    Since Germany refused to remove their troops from neutral Belgium, Britain decided to declare war. The British and French were to protect the Belgium.

    Where allies were fighting with each other, the battle had moved to English Channel and then came trench warfares. A Belgium City, Ypres was quite essential to both sides of the battle, a communication hub. They fought of German assaults, and soon in November, the 24th, Germans give up as the weather soon got colder; winter.

    In the course of the war around the time of Christmas, In the No Man's land, carols were heard. Men from either sides of the battle greet each other. It was quite spontaneous, and many soldiers had been done it.

    This event was apart of a chain reaction. A German U-boat had torpedoed a British steamship, Lusitania. About 1,128 people died, a good few being American. Because of this, it caused some problems between the United States and Germany. Thus being the start where America joins the war.

    Woodrow Wilson was the president of the US at the time of WWI. He had a campaign going on, its purpose being to be neutral during WWI, that they would not be involved in the war. However, that campaign was broken. "He kept us out of war" was one of his slogans.

    The US had received the letter from Britain about Germany's letter to Mexico. It was apart of the reason why America entered the war. The letter was deciphered in January 1917.

They declared war because of the incident where Germany torpedoed a British steamship, containing a good amount of Americans. Germany had said they would not use submarine warfare, however, they lied.

    It was because of this that the concept "total war" became a thing. In England, Folkestone was bombed by German airplanes. about 95 civilians died, while over 190 were injured. Strategic bombing was one of that, that "total war" was introduced to England and the rest of the world.

    An unusually deadly pandemic around 1918-1919. Although, there wasn't really a place of origin, a lot of people were infected (about 1/3 of the world population, about 500 million). It was identified in those whom were in the military first. 50 million people were said to die because of said pandemic. It seem to have spread quite easily. There weren't any vaccines or antibiotics for it, and it's like a mystery disease.

    Instead of a side surrendering to end the war, it was ended by an armistice. It happened on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month. An Armistice is an agreement between two parties to end fighting. Although it "ended" war, Germany still got a lot of harsh treatment.
