    FIRST BATTLE OF MARNE
    The first usage of radio intercepts and automotive transportation was used in the first battle of Marne. On September 10th the Germans had begun on the retreat that had finished North from the Aisne River, causing a trench warfare. The Anglo-French victory was in fact made by the fact that the Germans had finished their artillery from earlier wars that they have won at.

    Austria-Hungary declares war on Serbia
    Austria-Hungary starts the first world war on against Serbia after a Serbian nationalist killed Archduke Franz Ferdinand and his wife. This causes Austria-Hungary to break ties with Serbia.The night of July 28, 1914, Austrian artillery started an ineffectual bombardment towards the Danube River. It ended up causing Germany to start wars against other places.

    With the Germans failing to win against the Allies, the war at the Ypres marked the end of the wars movement. Both the allies and the Germans had started creating trenches that stretched from Switzerland to the North Sea.The Belgium army took up defense while the fighting spread North towards France. The fighting was coming to an end when winter came for both sides and they were both tired enough already.

    The battle of Neuve Chapelle started when the British army while trying to go through destroying the trnches of Neuve Chapelle and get to capturing the village of Aubers. The last day of this battle ended when the British had to stop what they were doing two hours after they launched theyre attack against the Germans.

    LUSITANIA
    Ten months after WWI started in Europe, A German U-boat sank the RMS Lusitania killing 1,100 passengers on board and more than 120 americans as well. It appeared that the Lusitania had almost 173 tons of munitions of war for Britain which indeed the Germans used as justification for the attack. Germany apologized and promised to stop unrestricted submarine warfare but in November a couple months after Germany ended up sinking an Italian liner killing over 270 people plus more than 25 americans.

    The battle in Verdun, France begun by the Germans shooting across the Meuse River starting the longest conflict of WWI making it last up to ten months.Erich von Falkenhayn, chief of staff of the German army, thought or had a belief that defeating the French in a major battle instead of confronting Russia was the key to winning.
    In December 18, Hindenburg finally called a stop to the German attacks after ten long months. With a German deaths of 143,000 and a French one of 162,440

    Forbes Allan

    Forbes Allen is veteran who served from 1917 to 1919 in the Army in France. His highest rank was corporal and he was fighting alongside his brother Andrew. Born in MA he would send letters to his father letting him know of what happened what days in his service.

    The USA entered the war against Germany for many reasons. The US had sworn it would stay neutral with the war but with Britain being like the US's best neighbor, the US had started getting mad at Germany when they would attempt to send artillery to Britain but Germany would instead shoot them down. When the war had ended more than 50,000 of the US army people had lost their lives and more than 2 million had fought in total.

    The battle of the Arras consisted of the British Empire attacking trenches of Imperial Germany near the French city called Arras. The date, time and place was planned by General Nivelle, he desired to work with the French to fight against the Germans but fighting in the Arras was not what a British Commander-in-Chief, Field Marshal Haig wanted, he wanted to fight up North around the Ypres Silent.

    In this letter, Forbes Allen mentions that he will be meeting his brother Andrew who was also in service. He says that he will not be able to go home in a couple of weeks because things had changed. He says that there have been multiple times he has seen his brother. He even saw his brother for New Years and it was a fine day.

    Forbes Allen wrote to his father saying that he has not recieved a letter from home in two weeks already. He worries something is wrong and he writes to his father asking "What is the matter?". He wrote to his father saying that some of the people are on their way home now.

    Forbus Allan chose to send a three page letter to his father on June 26,1918. He was explaining to his father that him and his army crew had moved out of their camping site and that now were moving to a new place where it was full of fields. He ends the card saying that it is from "Your loving son" and it is all written in cursive.

    Second Battle of the Marne
    General Erich Ludendorff had tried to convince another offensive to make the French go back or draw away front Flanders Front. The French general Ferdinand Foch knew that an offensive plan was going to occur so that started up a fight against the Germans. Even though the Germans did not really cross the Marne river, they did indeed move forward some miles. The Germans did not make it far because the allies ended up surprising them and making them retreat.

    On November 11th at 5 am Germany had gotten invaded and had gotten forced to sign an armistice agreement which meant that Germany signed a treaty to keep peace for as long as possible. Which of course ended up getting broken on WWII. Long story short, The Allies invaded Germany and made Germany give up by signing a peace treaty which is indeed the ending of WWI

    On this letter to his father, Forbes Allan says he would only write this quick note to his father as he was rushed but he says that he thought his brother Andrew would already be home or on his way home. He says he got surprised when he went to give a town a visit and ended up seeing his brother their. Later on he says that he chose to give his brother a visit and he surprised his brother when his brother thought no one would visit. He says that they both spend some time together.
