Archduke Francias Ferdinand Assassination
Archduke Ferdinand was assassinated by Gavrilo Princip. He was shot to death along with his wife. They were both driving around the city in Sarajevo. Gavrilo had rushed to the open car and shot them. -
Trench Foot
Trench foot is a fungal infection that is caused by being exposed to cold, damp conditions for a long time. So bascially from being in the trenches caused people to get it. -
Sergeant Stubby
Stubby was the mot decorated dog and the only one to be promoted to sergeant. He warned soldiers about incoming gas attacks. He also helped find soldiers and even captured a spy. -
Women in the War
Women were in the war. They did a lot of different things like they worked in factories, mail carriers, shipyards, railroad yards, and train engineers. They even served as police officers. -
Weapons used in the War
Weapons that were used in the war were poison gas which Germany had introduced and used it in 1915. The British introduced tanks. Then aircrafts were introduced, which were then equipped with machine guns. -
Christmas Truce
On Christmas German and British troops made a truce. The soldiers both sang Christmas carols, gave each other gifts, even played some soccer together. They also ate together but it was just for the one day. -
Sinking of Lusitania
A British passenger ship that had entered war zone. It was sunk by a German submarine. Almost killed 1,200 passengers also inc luding 128 Americans. -
Zimmerman Telegram
Arthur Zimmerman sent a telegram to a German ambassador in Mexico. Arthur told the ambassador to make Mexico an offer. Telling them that if they joined the war that after the war they would get their the lands that they lost back. -
Training Course in Georgia
Kendall was first sent to train at U.S. Army Reserve Officers Training Corps. Which is in Camp McPherson, Georgia. Then following his graduation he commissioned to 2nd Lieutenant. -
U.S. Enters War
The U.S. joined Triple Entente Alliance. We got involved because the Allies needed help. And also because of the Zimmerman Telegram. -
Training at Fort MacARTHUR
Kendalls division was moved to Fort MacARTHUR in Waco, Texas. They were trained there till July 1918. Then they were deployed to France where they were apart of the American Expeditionary Force. -
Wounded During a Fight
Kendall was wounded by a shrapnel. When he was wounded he was at St. Mihiel. Where they fought for 33 days in St. Lorraine Campaign. -
Child During the War
He had a child during the war, so he was not there for the birth. He recieved a telegram from his wife telling him he had become a father on August 1, 1918. So he was not there for 3 months of his daughter's life. The same day she was born, his unit had landed in France. -
Stayed in France
After the war ended Kendall stayed in France. He stayed so he could be apart of the occuptional force. And his return to the U.S. was in June 1919. -
Germany Surrenders
On November 11, 1918 Germany formally surrended the war. Then after that the other countries called a truce. Which is where the Treaty of Versailles come from.
