    Zeppelins
    Zeppelins are large German airships of the 20th century that are dirigible. They are long like a cylinder in shape. In December of 1914 the 1st zeppelin was flown over the English Coast. These airships were used for bombings and reconnaissance.
  • Assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand

    Assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand
    Franz Ferdinand was assassinated in June 1914 on the 28th. He was also assassinated along with his wife, Sophie, Duchess of Hohenberg. Princip, a 19 year old Serbian army reject was 3 weeks to young for the death penalty. Princip was only sentenced to 20 years, died at the age of 23 from tuberculosis.

    Germany Declares

    Between Aug 1st and the 3rd of 1914, Germany decided that it was a great idea to declare war on Russia and France at the same time. German troops charged through Belgium due to the Schlieffen Plan being created in 1905. France demanding the germans withdraw the plan.

    Early Stages

    During November to December of 1914 is when an French counter-attack had many deaths due to the Frenchmen on the battlefield. British troops advanced from France to Belgian towns. The British lost many troop at their first battle, Battle of Ypres. All hopes that war would be over by Christmas, but no, more blood was shed even on a holiday.

    Winston Churchill Resigns
    After February 1915, First Post Lord of the Admiralty, Winston Churchill resigns. He wanted to pursue his Army dreams once again, he rejoins as a Battalion Commander. He gave up on being apart of the Dardanelles due a loss of several ships.

    Lusitania Done Sunk
    While many American passengers were aboard on the ship. The Germans sunk the ship in 1915 on May 7th. The Americans were very heated that the Germans did that even though they were their rivals during the war at the time. The Germans started a U-boat campaign.

    On May 23rd, 1915, Italy joined the war but on the of the Allies. Germany kept messing with France, invading its territory, making rules and starting unnecessary battles at the beginning of the war. France thought by joining the war of the good guys they would actually have a chance to a have a victory over Germany for once and for all.

    By the Winter of 1916 there was a very short supply of flour. The supply of flour was short they had to use dried ground turnips as an alternate.The soldiers needed to bulk up for the war and bread helps a lot when trying to gain muscle and weight for a certain activity.

    Allan Forbes had sometime on his hands so he wrote his Father on December 26th, 1918. They have not talked in a while. He wanted to write him a little note to keep him updated on his son’s life. He payed some boys from his hometown a visit on a Sunday about a week ago back then

    In 1917, Lloyd George who was very uneasy with his war minister abilities still persuaded the French cabinet that they should give him a chance to help bring down Germany. Halg supported the cabinet's decision as Supreme War Commander.

    The Armistice is Signed
    Around brunch time on November 1918 on the 11th, in a Frenchtown, a document that brought the war to end. The countries included in the war signed this document to ensure the war was actually over. It gave Germany the responsibility to pay for any of the destructions they cause during the war and baling the war on them.

    In Vosges, France in December 1918 on the 25th, there was a little Christmas gathering for the soldiers that were apart of the Major Edward H. Schell and his staff. It was too bring them “heartiest felicitations and good wishes” during the holidays, when they need it the most. They served a menu, on the menu were very hearty foods for the wintertime such as cream of tomato soup, potatoes, baked macaroni and turkey, there were many more also. This was at Bazoilles-Sur-Meuse.

    On February 28th 1919, John J. Pershing sent Allan Forbes a letter to congratulate them on a successful ending of the war. He wanted to give the men a personal congratulations on their success. Alam Forbes was so devoted to his country before, during and after he served in the world.
  • Returning to the United States

     Returning to the United States
    Allan Forbes and others are to report to Brest, France to return back home on July 5th 1919. This was a special order for the men and women to be sent home safely. The travel will take about 3 days to arrive to their destination. The men and women will have carry their records with them at all time to enter.
  • Honorable Discharge

     Honorable Discharge
    It's always an achievement to be honored for your work ethics, it doesn’t matter what is is. On the 2nd of August in 1919, Allan Forbes got an honorable discharge for his outstanding work in the military throughout the years he served. His document was signed in Massachusetts. He has his personal information on the document for government purposes.
