  • start of World War 1.

    World War 1 started because of many things: Militarism, alliances, inperialism, nationalism and significant invidivual. World War 1 is something that will never be forgotten and is marked in the world's history.
  • Franz Ferninand was assasinated.

    This significant individual was the main cause for Worl War 1. When Franz got assasinated, his country sparked with rage and declared war with Serbia. Due to all of the alliances, this made the war grow from two countries to more and even more.
  • the start of the Schlieffen plan.

    The Schlieffen plan was Germany's plan to invade France by cutting through Belgium They feared that they'd be attacked from either side of their country as France and Russia were in an alliance together. They aimed for France because it was the smaller country and wanted to take them out before they were attacked from both sides. Although they didn;t know Belgium had a secret alliance with Brtian, and the war became even bigger.
  • Australia joined the war.

    Our country joined the war because we were called in from Britian. This was important because our country lost so many soldiers while fighting against others.
  • the battle of Marne.

    The battle of Marne was a really important war and a big step for the machinery used in wars. It was the first war to use radio intercepts and automotive transport. France won, and Germany reatreated. After this war, trenches started being built as well.
  • Australian troops arrive in Egypt for training.

    This is when Australian troops arrived at the mena camp In Cairo Egypt. They started training for the war and getting prepared, but they didn't know what they were getting into. This was important to the war because it really made Australian soldiers think that the war was going to be a fun and great experience.
  • Battle of the Suez Canal.

    This was was against the the Turkish, Australians and British. British had a hold of this special canal and Turkey wanted to take over it as it was a very useful hiding place, The only way to get there was to walk and the Turkish had to do so in rainy weather. Trench foot spread all around the area. The British and Australians were attacked from behind but held their heads up high and continued to fight the battle, dominating the Turkish. Turkey lose too many men and were forced to retreat.
  • the Gallipoli Campaign.

    The Gallipoli campiagn was a war between the Anzacs (Australian and New Zealanders), the Turkish and the British. It happened on the shoes of the Gallipoli Peninsula in Turkey. It is a great day in history and every year we stand to remember those who fought for our country and sadly passed away.
  • the sinking of the RMS Lusitania.

    The RMS Lusitania sunk because torpedoes were fired a Garman submarine called U 20. The ship took 18 minutes to sink and it killed a total 1198 people. It had innocent civillians from America on the ship and this is partly why America joined the war. It also raged Britain because this meant that their supplies were floating around in the ocean, and not helping their troops.
  • the battle of Liege.

    The battle of Liege was the start of the Schlieffen plan. It was Germans against Belgians. It was the first land battle of the war and it brought Britain into the picture.
  • the battle of Verdum.

    The battle of Verdum was the longest single battle fought in World War 1. It was the primary reason for the battle of Somme. Germans attacked land that had historic Sentiment for for the French. Americans joined in on this war and it was hectic, with forts and heavy machinery used. Germany was defeated.
  • the battle of Somme

    The battle somme was a war with Belgium, France and Great Britain. It took place on the border of France and Belgium and basically happened because of the Schlieffen plan. This was one of the biggest wars that Australia was involved in.
  • the batlle of Fromelles.

    The batlle of Fromelles was a war between Australian and German troops. It was Australia's plan to draw German troops away from the battle of Somme. It caused Australia to withdraw from the way because a lot of their soldiers were lost due to fierce counter attacks.
  • battle of Gaza.

    Wat between the Turkish and Bristish. The British said they won the battle but it was claimed as a draw.
  • the battle of Vimy Ridge.

    This war was the first time that all Canadian divisions joined the war as a a group; the Canadian corps. Their plan was to attack against Germany at Vimy Ridge in France. This was an important war for Canada because it helped establish the Canadian Corps as a premier fighting force.
  • the battle of Ypres.

    Americans joined in on this war and it was a battle between them, British and French against Germans. The war was really large and Germany was outpowered.

    This was a war between the British, French and the German forces at Hindenburg Line. It confirmed Germany's present weaknesses.

    The Treaty of Versailles was a treaty signed by Germany for peace and repayment. The photo for this event is a primary source and was taken at the time it was signed. This was important because it was a cause for World War 2.
