    The Archduke Franz Ferdinand and his wife Sophie, were assassinated by Gavrilo Princip. His weopan of choice a 9mm short barrelled pistol. Franz and his wide Sophie both died bfore 11:00 am.

    As tensions grew and Alliances banded together, Germany made the decision to invade Belgium. World War 1 officially began.

    On Christmas Day, the guns fell silent for once. The Germans and the British shoke hands, gave each other presents, and sang Christmas Carols together. However, their celebrations were short lived. The day after Christmas, they began to shoot each other. Then World War 1 begaan to kick in.

    The Germans purpose for poison gas is to spread disease among the enemy and to kill them. When it was first used, the British were totally unprepared.. They died by the thousands from disease.

    The Battles of Verdun was one of the largest battles ever to occur during World War 1. The battles involved 2 countries, France and Germany. By the end of the battle, both sides losed and gained small amounts of territory. All in all, about 600,000 people were killed.

    The Battle of Jutland, was the first battle of the War that involved huge naval skirmishes. In the trenches in France, the Harlam Hellfighters played a key role in the French military. They were the first African American squad to enter WW1 and come back as "heroes."
  • Second Battle of Villers-Bretonneux

    Second Battle of Villers-Bretonneux
    This battle was a major landmark in the history of warfare. Not for it's tremendous courage of soldiers, but for the first tank battle in history. Three German Tanks confronted three British Tanks that came to support the light tanks further up the road. The battle became a huge step forward in the Australian Military.

    The peace treaty that brought an end to the great war was called the Armistice. It was signed on the eleventh month of the eleventh day of the eleventh hour. Although this was when the fighting ended, it didn't officially end until the Treaty of Versailles was signed.
