The sinking of the Lusitania
German u-boats or submarines sunk ships between england and and america. May 7,1915,German u-boat sank Lusitania, a british passanger ship sailing of coast land of ireland. More than 100 americans were dead. German warned americans newspapers to stay off war zone. German also said the Lusitania had been carrying war supplies. -

Battle of the somme
Fought on july 1 and november 1,1916.Near the river of somme river in france at the time. There was a war between british and france after germans. They said it was the bloodiest battle in world war 1 of history. First day, British suffered more than 57,000 causualties. By the end of the war the campaign the allies and central powers would lose 1.5 million. -

In january of 1917, Germany did not think united states join the war. German leader arthur zimmermann sent a telegram to mexico asking the country to start a border war with the united states.Return, Germany gets mexico land that became the Texas,New mexico,arizona.English broke the secert code and sent information to wilson. Germany was shown as america's enemy. Two months later, Germany u-boats sank three american merchant boats. -

April 2,1917, Zimmermann telegram,wilson asked congress for declaration of war. Wilson said the united states must go to the war because the war"must be made safe for democracy". War was offically declared against germany on April 6,1917.WW1 included all americans. Government set goals for manufacturing,farming,transportation and selected men for the military. Speakers tried patriotic posters,,pamphlets,films to support the war. Americans were told"food will win the war".
