    John White who was the governor of the colony Roanoke left the colony to go get supplies from England. After lord Baltimore died his son took over and started offering 100 acres of land to any married couple who would come and settle, and this opportunity was took over by protestants.

Roger Williams was originally banished from the Massachusetts Bay colony for speaking against the government, which led to him making sure their was no religious persecution of Christians in Rhode Island.
