  • Rosetta Stone

The Rosetta Stone is a stone with three different forms of writing - in two languages - on it. It was found in 1799 by some soldiers who were rebuilding a fort in Egypt. Although the Rosetta Stone was found in 1799, due to the inscriptions being in three different forms of writing, it was hard to decipher and was deciphered in 1822 by Jean-Francois Champollion who had studied various Egyptian texts.
