Ancient Greece
Made up of Islands with rugged mountains and peloponnus. Founded in 2800 BC by the Minoans. They were taken over by the the Mycenaeans in 1450 BC. They created the first Greek state in 1600 BC. -
Period: 2800 BCE to 1450 BCE
Minoans
The Minoans were founded on the Island of Crete. They had a Palace complex at Knossos which was the center of the empire. They were sea based. They collapsed after the invasion by the Mycenaeans. -
Period: 1600 BCE to 1100 BCE
Mycenae
They created the first Greek state. They were mostly warriors, The Greek states fought each other and by 1100 the Mycenae collapsed. -
1180 BCE

A famous legend tells how, in 1180 BC, the cunning Greeks conquered the city of Troy – by hiding inside a giant wooden horse! The horse was left outside the city’s walls and, thinking it a gift, the people of Troy wheeled it inside... only for the sneaky Greek soldiers inside to creep out and seize the city! -

The Dark Age
During the dark ages people settled in small groups and the population decreased. There was very little record keeping during this time. The people created the the alphabet with Greek letters that eventually created our alphabet. -
Period: 508 BCE to 336 BCE
Golden Age
This was a time of development for the arts and invention. Greek theaters were built in Athens. Male citizens were allowed to vote on how they thought things should be done. This was the start of Democracy. The economy grew and Athens was the Super City of Greece. -
479 BCE
The Peloponnestian War
Greece split: Athens vs everyone else. Sparta & Others formed the Peloponnesian League. There was a war between Sparta & Athens. The Persians side with Sparta. Sparta/Persians win against Athens. The war ended with the victory of the domination of Athenians. -
Period: 323 BCE to 146 BCE
The Fall of Greece
Alexander the Great was a great leader and military genius who concurred most of the known world and spread the Greek culture and language. In 146 Rome conquers the Corinthians and Greece falls under the rule of the Roman Empire.
