  • Australia Declares Independence

    Australia declared independence from the U.K. colonies in 1901.
  • Boxer Rebellion Ends in China

    The Boxer Rebellion in China came to an end in 1901, because of the Peace of Peking. The rebellion had been going on for 3 years.
  • Tensions between Germany and Britain

    In 1901, Britian's Colonial Affairs Secretary Joseph Chamberlain gave an anit-Germany speech in Edinburgh. When news of the speech reached Germany, it caused tension between the two nations. It would later lead to the breakdown of the Anglo-German alliance.
  • Hay-Pauncefote Treaty

    Britain and the United States sign a treaty. Britain grants the U.S. control of the Isthmian Canal.
  • Panama Grants U.S. Rights to Panama Canal

    Panama granted U.S. control of a ten-mile wide canal zone. The U.S. used this zone to build the Panama Canal.

  • Portsmouth Treaty

    Russia and Japan end the Russo-Japanese war by signing a treaty in Porstmouth, New Hampshire. Most of this war was mediated by President Roosevelt.
