    The Renaissance Begins

    The Renaissance began in the 14th Century and ended a couple hundred years later. The Renaissance was a period of time where there were a lot of artistic and political rebirths.
  • 1434

    The Medici family becomes the head city-state of Florence

    The Medici's was an Italian family who ruled Florence. This family ruled for about 200 years until 1737. The Medici's were merchants and bankers which made them very wealthy.
  • 1450

    The Printing Press was Invented

    A man named Johannes Gutenberg invented the printing press. The first book that was printed was the Bible.
  • 1508

    Michelangelo Starts the Painting of the Sistine Chapel Painting

    Michelangelo started the painting in the chapel in 1508 and it is now one of the most famous painted interior spaces in the world.
  • Period: 1509 to 1547

    Henry VIII is King

    Henry was the king of England for many years. When his older brother Arthur died in 1502, he was the next one in line to be king.
  • 1512

    Michelangelo Finishes the Painting of the Sistine Chapel Ceiling

    Michelangelo was an amazing artist who painted the Sistine Chapel ceiling. He started in 1508 and then 4 years later he finished in 1512.

    The Reformation Began

    The Reformation began when Martin Luther nailed his 95 Theses to the door of the Catholic church. The Reformation reformed some of the doctrines of the Roman Catholic church and resulted in the beginning of the Protestant church.
