On this day, France signs a hummiliating treaty with Germany that ends the 1870-71 Franco-Prussian war. France losses the Alsace-Lorraine territory. As the ideas of nationalism spread, France was determinesd to recover their lost land. -
The Asssassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand
Archduke Franz Ferdinand was assassinanted in Sarajevo, his wife, Duchess Sophie was also assassinated. They were assassinated by 5 Serbs and on Bosniak in attempt to break off Austria-Hungary's South Slav provinces. -

In response to Britain's blockade on Germany, Germany puts a blockade on Britain, by sinking any Allied ships with its U-boat, or submarine. As a result, German officals (correctly) claimed that there was acontraband on board of the Lusitania, however this event was considered a tragedy becauses of the 1,198 civilian deaths, including 128 Americans. -
Presidentt Wilson Warns Germany
Germany promises to cease sinking ships without warnings in 1915. However that promise was unkept because in 1916 Germany sinks an unarmed passenger French Ship. President Wilson warns Germany and makes them promise to cease unrestricted warfare. Also known as the Sussex Pledge. -
