    Assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand
    On June 28th, 1914 at 11 a.m. archduke Franz Ferdinand was assassinated. He was shot twice on a street corner in Sarajevo. This attack severely wounded the archduke. 19-year-old suspect Gavrilo Princip was apprehended. Princip was believed to have had ties to the Black Hand. An hour before at 10:15 a.m., there had been another attempt at the archduke's life. Suspect Nedeljko Cabrinovic threw a bomb at the imperial motorcade as it made its way to Sarajevo city hall.

    On September 6th, 1914 The First Battle of the Marne started. It ended 6 days later on the 12th. The First Battle of the Marne was an offensive battle by the French and British expeditionary force against the invading Germans. Both sides suffered heavy casualties. The battle resulted in a victory for the allies.

    German submarine sinks the Lusitania
    On May 7th, 1915 a German submarine sunk the Lusitania. Without warning a German submarine torpedoed the Lusitania. Of the 1,959 passengers and crew, 1,159 people drowned including 128 Americans. The sinking of the Lusitania was one of the primary reasons the U.S. joined the war.

    Battle of Somme
    July 1st, 1916 marked the beginning of the battle of Somme. 19,240 British soldiers were killed and more than 38,000 were wounded by the end of the first day. By the end of July, the germans lost 160,000 soldiers and the British and French more than 200,000. The battle ended on November 18th. By the end of the battle, the Germans lost 450,000 soldiers, and the British lost 420,000. The battle resulted in an allied victory.

    September 26, 1918, marked the start of the final offensive battle in world war I The Meaus-Argonne offensive. The Meaus-Argonne offensive had over a million American soldiers participating. The battle resulted in 26,000 soldiers KIA and 120,000 casualties. The battle was fought from September 28th to November 11th and ended in an allied victory

    Forbes Allen gets a letter from John J. Pershing
    On February 28th, 1919 Forbes Allen got a letter from, John J. Pershing, congratulating them on winning the war. The letter congratulated them on being brave and bringing glory to America. John J. Pershing sent this letter to share his sincerest thanks. This letter was sent to the soldiers before their service with the American expeditionary forces terminated

    Forbes Allen receives special orders
    On June 5th, 1919 Forbes Allen received special orders to report to Brest, France to return to the united states. The letter consists of them relieving the troop of their duty. It also says they provided travel rations for three days and liquid coffee money. They also provided the necessary transportation

    On June 28th,1919 the treaty of Versailles was signed at the palace of Versailles. This treaty was one of the treaties that officially ended world war I. the treaty forced Germany and the other central powers to take all the blame for world war I. they lost territories, military forces, and reparations to the allied powers.

    Forbes Allen gets honorably discharged
    On July 2nd, 1919 Forbes Allen got honorably discharged from the army. He was honorably discharged because his service ended. Another reason is world war I had just ended days prior. The discharge notice includes his personal information.
