Seneca Falls Convention
This was the first major women's convention led by Elizabeth Cady Stanton, During the convention the Declaration of Sentiments was established.
The Declaration of Sentiments, outlined their aggetations with government practices: equality with men before the law, in education and employment, and the right to vote. -
Beginning of the Civil War
From April 1861 until May 1865 the United States fought the bloodiest was it's ever seen. The Women's Suffrage Movement was halted in an effort to help the war. -
14th Amendment
The 14th Amendment is ratified, it extended to all citizens the protections of the Constitution against unjust state laws. The amendment defined citizens and voters as "male" -
NWSA
Elizabeth Cady Stanton and Susan B. Anthony found the National Woman Suffrage Association (NWSA). This group was created over a debate of the 15th amenedment; they believed that it shouldn't be passed unless it included the vote for women. They believed a frederal constitutional admendment would secure women's suffrage. This was a more radical group than the AWSA. -
AWSA
Lucy Stone, Henry Blackwell, Julia Ward Howe create the American Woman Suffrage Association-AWSA. This group was created over a debate of the 15th amenedment; they strongly believed that African Americans deserved the right to vote. The group believed success could be obtained through state-by-state campaigns. It is a more conservative assocation than the NWSA -
Women's Suffrage Amendment
A Women's Suffrage Amendment is introduced to the US Congress, it had the same wording as the amendment that was passed in 1919. -
NAWSA
The American Woman Suffrage Association (AWSA) and the National Woman Suffrage Association (NWSA) joined forces to create the National American Woman Suffrage Association (NAWSA). The group combined forces, and was the parent organization to hundreds of smaller local and state groups. It was the largest and most important suffrage organization in the US. The group pused for a constitutional amendment guaranteeing the vote for women. Elizabeth Cady Stanton was the first president. -

Women get the vote!
The 19th Amendment was passed in the Senate, which said "the right of citizend of the United States to vote shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any State on account of sex." -
