Birth Control
Margaret Sanger founds the American Birth Control League, which became the Planned Parenthood Federation of American in 1942. In 1960, birth control pills were approved by the Food and Drug Administration. -
Ms. Magazine
Ms. Magazine is published as a sample in the New York magazine. Its first independent issue was published in 1972 and it became a major forum for feminist voices. Gloria Steinem, the cofounder and editor, became an icon in the modern feminist movement. -
Roe v. Wade
As a result of Roe v. Wade, the Supreme Court establishes a woman's right to safe and legal abortion, overriding the anti-abortion laws of many states. -
Marital Rape Law
The first marital rape law was enacted in Nebraska which made it illegal for a husband to rape his wife. -
The Pregnancy Discrimination Act
The Pregnancy Discrimination act bans discrimination of pregnant women in the work place. Women could not be fired or denied a job because they might be or become pregnant and women who were pregnant could not be forced to go on pregnancy leave if they were able and willing to do their job. -
The Violence Against Women Act
The Violence Against Woment Act made penalties worse for sex offenders, funds services for victims or rape and domestic abuse, and provided special training police officers. -
United States v. Virginia
In United States vs, Virginia, the supreme court rules that the all-male Virginia Military School had to accept women if they wanted to continue to receive public funding, and having a seperate school for girls wouldn't be enough.
