National Women's Trade Union League
The National Women's Trade Union League (WTUL) is established to advocate for improved wages and working conditions for women. This is significant to women's rights becase they are improving the life of women by giving them better conditions to withstand. -
Margaret Sanger Birth Control
Margaret Sanger opens the first U.S. birth-control clinic in Brooklyn, N.Y. Although the clinic is shut down 10 days later and Sanger is arrested, she eventually wins support through the courts and opens another clinic in New York City in 1923. This is important to the women's rights because it was supposed to keep women from getting pregnant but was shut down and the leader was arrested. -
The Women's Bureau of the Department of Labor
The Women's Bureau of the Department of Labor is formed to collect information about women in the workforce and safeguard good working conditions for women. This is significant because the orginization is out to help women out when it comes to labor. This was also when they created the amendment for women to vote. -
Birth Control
Birth control information is no longer classified as obscene. Throughout the 1940s and 50s, birth control advocates are engaged in numerous legal suits. This is important to Women's rights because birth control becomes apart of their lives. -
1940's
The 1940's were known as World War II and the Great Depression and during the times the life expectancy wasn't as high as it is today for women. This has significance women start seeking heathy lives by women having more rights by this time. -
DOB
The Daughters of Bilitis (DOB), the first lesbian organization in the United States, is founded. Although DOB originated as a social group, it later developed into a political organization to win basic acceptance for lesbians in the United States. This is significant to Women's Rights because it is a change in history and it is supporting differences. -
The Food and Drug Administration
The Food and Drug Administration approves birth control pills. This is significant to Women's Rights because they no longer disagree with the birth control pills. -
Child Birth
After what had happened in the Roe vs Wade case they decide that it is the woman's right to decide whether he or she wants an abortion or not. This is significant because it's giving the choice to women instead of others. -
Emily's List
EMILY's List (Early Money Is Like Yeast) is established which made a impact on the amount of women that were apart
of the congress. It made increasing numbers. It's significant because it shows that women are getting more rights and bravery. -
Violence Against Women
The Violence Against Women Act tightens federal penalties for sex offenders, funds services for victims of rape and domestic violence, and provides for special training of police officers. This is significant to Women's Rights because they are showing that women are important to them. -
Labor
President Obama signed the Lily Ledbetter Fair Pay Restoration Act, which allows victims of pay discrimination to file a complaint with the government against their employer within 180 days of their last paycheck. Previously, victims mainly women were only allowed 180 days to show them. This is significant because it shows that women get treat bad during while working.
