From a young age she developed a positive view of womenhood from a teacher named Mary Perkins who educated the children in their home. Illegally voting in 1872, she was fined a $100 and never paid the fine. -

Carry Nation & the WCTU
Carry Nation, worked for prohibition by walking into Saloons, scolding the customers, and using her hatchet to destroy bottles. (WCTU) Womens Christian Temperance Union was the largest womens group in our nations history, and worked for the prohibition of alchohol based drinks. -
NAWSA Formed
The National Women Suffrage Association which untied with another group in 1890 to become the National American Women Suffrage Association or NAWSA. -
Carrie Chapman Catt & New NAWSA Tactics
Focusing on 1. painstaking organization, 2. close ties between local, state, and national workers. 3. Establishing a wide base support; 4. cautious lobbying; & 5. gracious, ladylike behavior. After Carrie formed he New York's Women Suffrage Party. -
19th Amendment
Congress passed the 19th amendment, granting women the right to vote. The amendment won final ratification in August 1920-72 years after women first convened and demnded the vote at the Seneca Falls Convention in 1848
