Susan B/ Anthony was a proponent of women suffrage. She stated that she would rather cut off her right hand than have black man vote and not women. -
Illegal Voting
Susan B. Anthony and other woemn attempted voting at least 150 times in ten states. The Supremem court ruled that just because they were citizens it didn't give them the right to vote. She was put on trial for Illegal Voting. -
Carry Nation and the WCTU
Carry Nation worked for prohibition by going into saloons and smashing the bottles of liqour with a hatchet. The Women's Christian Temperance Union (WCTU) would go into saloons and sing and pray for the saloonkeepers to stop selling alcohol. -
NAWSA Formed
Original founded by Susan B. Anthony and Elizabeth Cady Stanton called The National Women Suffrage Association (NWSA) they united with another group and became the National American Women Suffrage Association (NAWSA). -
Carrie Chapman Catt and New NAWSA Tactics
Carrie Chapman Catt was the president of the NAWSA who servered from 1900-1904 and resumed presidency in 1915 with 5 new tactics: painstaking organization; close ties between local, state, and national workers; establishing a wide base of support; cautious lobbying; and gracious, ladylike behavior. -
19th Amendment
The 19th amendment granted women right. It was passed by Congress in 1919 but wasn't finally ratified until august 1920.
