The founding of the National Women Suffrage Association
This foundation was organized in order to give women the right to vote. It was founded by Susan B. Anthony and Elizabeth Cady Stanton. In order to give women their right to vote, the group had to try and obtain a Congressional amendment to the Constitution. -
Women's Integration into NAWSA
Two of the major women's rights movements join forces.The National Women Suffrage Association and the American Women Suffrage Association became the National American Women Suffrage Association. This group tried to receive voting rights by going from state to state, launching campaigns. -
Gaining Ground
Colorado was the first state to allow women to vote. This was due to the effort of NAWSA and their campaigns to obtain these rights. Utah and Idaho soon followed Colorado three years later -
The National Association of Colored Women
This group was founded in order to bring colored women together. Over 100 clubs of colored women were members in the National Association of Colored Women. Leaders of this group include Mary Church Terrell and Anna Julia Cooper. -

First Woman in Cabinet Position
Frances Perkins was the first female cabinet official. This was a shock, but she was appointed by President Rosevelt, so she was very well respected. she served for a total of 12 years, and she was crucial in the development of unemployment insurance and minimum wage laws. -
The National Council of Negro Women
Groups of black women who combined forces in order to prevent sexism, racism, and job discrimination. The woman who put together this group was Mary McLeod Bethune. -
Women Speaking for Themselves
Women were now allowed to take birth control pills. The Food and Drug Administration finally passed the use of this pill. This was not allowed before then because it was viewed as a type of abortion and women were not permitted to get one. -
NOW
NOW, the National Organization for Women, was the biggest group for women's rights at the time. The group, founded by Betty Friedan, sought to end sexual discrimination in all areas of life, especially while at work. The group still exists today and are still fighting for equality. -
Planned Parenthood Vs. Casey
This trial, which was taken to the Supreme Court, gave women the right to get an abortion. A lot of people think that it was Roe Vs. Wade, but Pennsylvania challenged it and came up with the 1989 Abortion Control Act, which wanted to overturn the ruling of Roe Vs. Wade. -
Women can Fight
There was a ban against women fighting in the military that the Pentagon put into place in 1992. This ban was then lifted, in order so that women could fight alongside men in the military.
