Polls expand to Include Women
Who- Women gained the right to vote, due in large part to abolitionists such as Susan B. Anthony.
What- Women gained the right to vote.
Where and When- This was ratified in 1920 in Washington, DC.
Why- After keeping the country afloat, women demanded more rights when the men came home.
This was the first step in women gaining significant political power in the U.S. -
Women in the Workforce on the Rise
Women replaced those men that were fighting in WWII, keeping our economy alive. -
Women Seeking More Change
This group was formed in 1966, and they petitioned for gender equality in the workplace, as well as schools and court. They also worked to end domestic violence against women. They, in all, said women are people, and thus, deserve the same rights. -
Entering a New ERA
ERA: This ammendment promised equal rights for all sexes for everything, not just jobs.
They organized a march in D.C. that attracted 100,000 people (mostly women) to the capital.
Critics warned that the ERA would cancel laws, which would mean women could be drafted into the military and would also share restrooms with men. -
Abort the Fight?
In the Supreme Court, ROE V. WADE made abortion legal, which was one of the rights NOW pushed for. The decision sparked a freat deal of contoversy in health vs. religion, and the battle continues to this day. -
A Moving Movement
The effects of the Women’s Movement included an increase in professional jobs for women and the ability to be part of the government. Middle class women felt cheated by the upper class women, as they generally experienced more success. This took place all over AMerica.
