Title IXIn 1972 title IX was passed as a law which allowed women to start having coaching and more administrative positions in the sports industry. It also allowed for women to have more access to participate in sports which in turn allowed for them to have more acces to scholarships. -

In 1973 Billie Jean king becomes the first women to win the battle of sexes match against bobby riggs a male tennis player who would normally taunt all female tennis players. With this win King made history as far as women getting respect in sports. -
Junko Tabei climbs Mt. Everast
Junko Tabei of Japan becomes the first women ever to successfully climb Mt. Everast. -
Three Point Test for title ix compliance
In compliance with title ix institutions had to pass each of the three following criteria. First the number of female and male athletes at a school must be in proportion to the overall student body. If women are half the school's population then half of it's athletes should be women. Second a school must demonstrate that it has increased opportunities for women. Finally a school must continue to show that it's existing athletic programs meet the interests of women on campus. -

Civil rights act of 1987 was passed
In 1987 the civil rights act was passed with much stronger provisions for title ix. With this colleges had to now start following the title ix law and all fifty states started offering state championships for girls sports and the ncaa sanctioned seventeen national championships for women. -
Jackie Joyner-kersee
In 1992 Jackie Joyner-Kersee became the greatest multievent track and field athlete of all time regardless of gender. This really made it apparent that women are finally becoming huge influences in sports.
