    Ende was the first female Spanish illuminator that had been documented. The approximate date of art is 975 c. The piece of art from En that I chose is known as the Apparition of Christ in the Clouds. This painting is gorgeous, including angels with wings among the clouds. Among the angels are Christ, looking down on five men who represent the five tribes of the world. This piece drew me in because of the colors, the way the space is used on the paper, and how religion is represented in it.

    Michelangelo was an Italian Renaissance sculptor and painter. He created this artwork between 1508-1512.
    This painting represents the temptation of sin and how when you succumb to it you fall from grace. The female is portrayed as dainty and beautiful while reaching for sin. I chose this piece because of the beauty and pain that is represented behind temptation.

    Sofonisba was born in Italy and was one of the first female portrait painters in Europe.
    The art was made in 1555. It is of her sibling's playing chess, showing a powerful message regarding gender and social status. This painting spoke to me because chess is played less by females and more by males. The uniqueness of it impressed me.

One woman seems to be focused on the other, placing a crown above her head. The other is staring at the man.There is another male in the ocean, drowning himself in a drink while two children appear to be floating next to him. I chose this painting for the wealth and beauty demonstrated.

    Ophelia is a painting created by Sir John Everett Millais in 1851 with oil on a canvas. He was very fascinated with the play Hamlet. He was a child prodigy. I was drawn to this art for the natural beauty that surrounds her, later to find out it is a representation of her trying to drown herself. A woman is pulled beneath water in her heavy dress surrounded by nature.

    Anna Archer was a Danish artist that was considered to be one of Denmark's greatest visual artists. In this painting there appears to be a woman in distress while in the graveyard. Tombs with flowers surround her as she stares downward into the abyss. Her clothes are modest and the light brushes her face to create a depth in her sorrows. I was drawn to the emotion represented in the woman's face and posture.

In this painting there is a naked woman on a deep, beautiful, blue background. Blue symbolizes tranquility and spirituality. I believe he was trying to express human vulnerability, and that is what drew me to this painting.

In this painting there are two girls in the hallway of a hotel while a door in the background is cracked and dimly lit. I chose this photo for the emotions represented throughout it. I believe the artist was trying to represent the difficulties that come with maturing as a woman.

She also did printmaking and was a prolific painter. I believe she made this to represent the type of tensions that humans have in relationships, especially those with conflicting perspective. I was drawn to this artwork for the colors it represented.

    As for my second painting, I chose a piece of artwork called Witches Switches by Getrude Abercrombie. This piece was created in 1952. Getrude Abercrombie was an important figure in the Chicago art scene in the mid-20th century. In this photo there seem to be four types of switches laid out. I believe she made this because she had a thing for making her work whimsical and mysterious. I was drawn to this artwork for its title and unique shape of switches.
