In the 1960s feminism began, which was the belif that women should have all equal rights that men do. In 1920 women won the right to be albe to vote. -
Civil Rights Acts of 1964
The women's movement gained strength when the Act was passed. It banned discrimination based on race, religion, origin, and gender as well as created the EEOC. -
NOW
Women argued that Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) wasn't enough. Then 28 women created the National Organization for Women (NOW). Members pushed for the creation of child-care facilities to pursure education or employment. -
Second Ban on Descrimation
Congress banned gender discrimination in education programs which are reciving federal finance assistance to aid the Higher Education Act. Because of this many all-male colleges started accepted females. -
Working Women
In 1965, 70% of women said they would not join the workforce because they had children. By 1972 the percentage dropped to a low 7%. -
Roe V. Wade
Supreme Court ruled that women have the right to choose to havean abortion whitin the first three months of pregnency. -
