Striking Distance

Prime Minister
The previous Prime Minister Neville Chamberlain was kicked out due to him being more lenient towards Germany, which enabled them to take over and control neighboring countries around them. When Germany invaded Norway in September 1939, Parliament lost trust in Chamberlain and kicked him out. Churchill became prime minister and minister of defense when King George VI appointed him.

This was a speech that Churchill gave to when he first met his Cabinet. He later used this phrase as morale booster during the war. Roosevelt was the first to use this phrase. -
Fight on the Beaches
On this day he gave lots of other information such as the news that 338,00 people were rescued off the beaches of Dunkirk. Later during the day however he gave his famous We Shall Fight on the Beaches speech as another morale booster. This speech wasn’t heard by the public until after World War II

Finest Hour
This was another speech by Churchill to keep morale up during the war. Historians call this one of the greatest speeches ever spoken in England. It’s final words were, “Let us therefore brace ourselves to our duties, and so bear ourselves that if the British empire and its Commonwealth last for a thousand years, men will still say, ‘This was their finest hour.”

Churchill gave this speech while visiting America. In his speech he forewarned of Soviet domination of Eastern Europe. He also advised not to join any European coalition.

Prime Minister....Again
In the general election in 1945 he lost the position of Prime Minister due to the fact of Britain being war-weary at this time and Churchill was a war time leader. In the 1951 general assembly he won against Clement Attlee. He later resigned later because of health issues.

Winston Churchill's Death
Winston Churchill died in London. The reason he kicked the bucket was a severe stroke. He was buried in his family grave in Bladon churchyard, Oxfordshire.
