In 1939, Golding married Anne Brookfield with whom he had 2 children. -
Joined the Navy
Golding left his teaching job in 1940 to join the Royal Navy and fight in WWII -
Publishes Lord of the Flies
After being rejected by 21 publishers, Golding was finally able to get his first novel, Lord of the Flies, published. -
Granted membership
Golding was granted a membership to the Royal Society of Literature in 1955. -

Nobel Prize
