William Golding

Birth

1911

William Golding was born in Newquay, Cornwall, England, in 1911. WIlliam's parents are Alec and Mildred Golding.

Childhood

1916

William's childhood started in a 14th-century house next door to a graveyard. He was a very bratty and frustrated kid.

Education

1924

William's education started at Marlborough Grammar School. He also graduated from Oxford University where his father worked.

Teaching

1935

William started teaching English and philosophy in 1935, at Bishop Wordsworth's School.

Job

1937

William Golding started a job at a settlement house. William also worked in small theatrical companies.

Marriage

1939

William married Ann Brookfield in 1939. It lasted until 1993.

Navy

1940

William worked on a destroyer which was involved in the pursuit and sinking of a battleship.

Had a kid

1940

William had his first son David in September 1940.

1954

William wrote his first book The Lord of the Flies, in 1954.

Second book

1955

William published his second book The Inheiritors in 1955

Death

1993

June 19, 1993, at Tullimaar House, William Golding died of heart failure.
