Teaching
In 1935, William started teaching English and philosophy at Bishop Wordsworth’s School in Salisbury.Golding was passionate about teaching, but in 1940 he quit teaching and joined the Royal Navy to fight in World War II. -

William's first novel was "Lord of the Flies". He finally got it published after 21 rejections. -
The Inheritors
This was his second novel following "The Lord of the Flies". Readers often have trouble understanding this novel, but it remained Golding's favorite throughout his life. -
Death
William died of a heartattack on June 19, 1993 in Perranarworthal, Cornwall. After his death his completed manuscript for "The Double Tongue" was published.
