30% of the 756 convicts were Catholic.Half of the Catholics were Irish.On the First Fleet Catholics were where not allowed to have a Catholic church.They were forced to go to the Anglican church service on Sunday.Govenor Phillip commanded that convicts would be flogged if they refused to attend to church.Some convicts even burnt down the first Anglican church built in the colony.also 30%of the convicts were baptised. -
