Why Declaration of Independence was Written

  • French and Indian War Ends

    The long war between the French and English finally ended with England gaining most o fwestern French territory
  • Proclamation of 1763

    The King said the colonists could'nt move past the Appalachain Mountains which made the colonists mad.
  • Sugar Act

    The colonists were taxed on cloth, sugar, soffee, and wine. Colonists boycotted these items, and the king eventually repealed this act
  • Stamp Act

    Every piece of paper being mailed needed to have a special stamp on it which the colonists had to pay for. They found ways to avoid this like by making newspapers one page.
  • Declaratory Act

    An act just to remind the colonists that the king was in charge.
  • Tea Act

    The colonists were taxed on tea, paper, glass, and coloring paints. The colonists boycotted these items, so the king repealed all but the tea.
  • Tea Act

    The colonists were only aloud to buy tea from the East India Company.
  • Boston Tea Party

    Colonists dumped the tea on a ship into the water.
  • Intolerable Acts

    A punishment for the colonists misbehaving. They were qurtering soldier, closure of the Boston Harbor, no right to assemble, and English had to go back to Englad for trials.
