    Industrialization was the period of social and economic change. it led to the growth of manufuncturing industry. The Industrial revolution began in britain due to the number of natural resources they had.
  • Nativism

    A policy of protecting the interests of native-born or established inhabitants against those of immigrants. It outbursts occurred in the Northeast from the 1830s to the 1850s. Another word used for nativist is anti-immigration.
  • Indian Removal

    During the Indian Removal Native Americans were forcibly removed their ancestral homesteads. President Jackson encouraged Congress to adapt the Removal Act of 1830. this act led to the Trail of Tears.
  • Third Party Politics

    Third parties are any party contending for votes that failed to outpoll either of its two strongest rivals. Third parties force major political parties to address new issues they might not have previously addressed very much.
  • Homestead Act

    An act that allowed people to buy land almost 160 acres but they must be the head of the house, be citizen and because no harm to the USA
  • The Gilded Age

    The Gilded Age is defined as the time between Civil War and World War I during which the U.S. population and economy grew quickly. Mark Twain called the 19th century the gilded age beaches the era was glamorized but corrupt underneath.
  • Haymarket Riot

    This riot was the aftermath of a bombing that took place at a labor demonstration. A labor proteset near Chicago's Haymarket Square turned ino a riot and several individuals died and 4 were executed.

    The Act was to assimilate native americans into american culture by making them farmers.
  • Jane Addams

    Addams moved into an old mansion with a college friend and established a nursery, dispensary, kindergarten, playground, gymnasium, and cooperative housing for young working women called the Hull-House. it not only attracted women, but male reformers as well who were interested in social service. In her autobiography 20 years at Hull-House she argued that society should respect the values and tracitions of immigrants and help the newcomers adjust to american institutions.
  • Andrew Carnegie

    In the early 1870s, he co-founded his first company and over the next few years he created a steel empire, maximizing profits and minimizing inefficiencies. he was making good progress until his reputation was impaired by a violent labor strike in 1892 at his steel mill. He retired in 1901 and devoted his wealth to charitable purposes, in particular to libraries, education, and the arts. He established the Carnegie Institute of Technology in 1900.
  • Ida B. Wells

    She was an African-American journalist and activist who led an anti-lynching crusade in the United States in the 1893 she published "A Red Record".
  • Eugene V. Debs

    He was a labor organizer and socialist leader who entered politics as a Demorcatic City Clerk and in 1885 was elected to the Indiana State Assembly. Debs organized the American Railway Union, which waged a strike against the Pullman Company of Chicago in 1894. Later on Debs was sentenced to 10 years in prison for his opposition to the United States' involvement in World War II.

    The populist movement started during the 1880's This was the belief of regular people having authority in government decisions. Progressivism progressed from a social movement to a political movement.
  • William Jennings Bryan

    Bryan campaigned for peace, prohibition and suffrage.He gave the cross gold speech favoring silver. He served as a colonial in Nabraska during the Spanish-American War.
  • Klondike Gold Rush

    The Klondike Gold Rush was a migration to the Klondike region of the Yukon in north-western Canada in search for gold.Dawson Charlie and George Washington Carmack found gold in a tributary of the Klondike River in Canada's Yukon Territory. This sparked many individuals to travel to Canada to mine gold.
  • Ida B. Wells

    Ida was an african american journalist was one of the leaders in the civil rights moment. She lead an anti-lynching crusade in the 1890s. She was one of the founders of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People.
  • Political Machines

    It's a political organization in such an authoritative boss or a small group commands or leads a business. Supporters of the organization gave help to the immigrants and other poor people of the city.
  • Susan B. Anthony

    she was acive in temperance but because she was a woman she was not allowed to speak at emperance rallies. she ater hoined the women's rights movement in 1852and dedicated her life to woman suffrage. She traveled and lectured across the nation for the vote. she also campaigned for the abolition of slavery, the right for women to own their own property and retain their earnings and advocated for women's labor organizations. in 1900 she persuaded the University of Rochester to admit women.

    This was the belife that white settlers could travel from coast to coast. This was a major contribution in the United States expansion. This made whites think they had the right to destroy anything and anyone who got in their way.

    The Initiative is a process that enables citizens to bypass their states legislature. The Referendum was a direct vote in which an entire electorate is asked to vote on a particular.Initiative, referendum, and recall are three powers reserved to enable the voters.
  • Upton Sinclair

    In 1906 journalist Upton Sinclair published "The Jungle" a novel that exposed the crual and unsafe practices in the U.S. meat packing system. He won the pulitzer prize for friction. He acquired fame from many other books also like The Bass Check through muckraking.
  • Pure Food and Drug Act

    The Act was made to prevent the manufacture, sale, or transportation of adulttered or misbranded or poisonous or deleterious foods, drugs, medicates, and liquors.
  • 16th Amendment

    This amendment said that Congress shall have power to lay and collect taxes on incomes, from whatever source derived. This law gave congress the rights to collect taxes.
  • Muckraker

    The term Muckracker was first said by Teddy Roosevelt during one of his speeches. The muckrackers were reporters, authors, and critics who sought to expose the evils and injustices of Gilded Age society. Lincoln Steffensure was the first ever muckracker.
  • Theodore Roosevelt

    Theodore Roosevelt was elected to the New York State Assembly at the age of 23 and served 2 terms. President Benjamin Harrison rewarded Roosevelt's service to the Republican Party with a job on the US Civil Service Commission and was annointed his successor then as assistant secretary of the US Navy in 1897, but left to become the colonel of the "Rough Riders" in the Spanish American War in 1898. He bcame president after McKinley was assassinated.

    The Dollar Diplomacy was the time of contry's financial power to extend its international influence. this was a form against American foregn policy to further its aims in Latin America and East Asia. the Dollar Diplomacy was used to ensure the financial stability of a regio.
  • 17th Amendment

    Constitution established the popular election of United States Senators by the people of the states. This amendment stated that a Senate of the United States shall be composed of two Senators from each State.
  • Clarence Darrow

    Clarence was a leading member of the American Civil Liberties Union. He was also known as a public speaker and a debater. He was also a well known advocate for georgist economic reform
  • Federal Reserve Act

    This Act created and established the Federal Reserve System and a form of stablity. It also decentralized central bank that balanced the competing interests of Private banks.
  • Suffrage

    The right to vote in political elections. The women's suffrage was a gran movement to fight for women's equality by the allowance of voting rights.
  • 18th Amendment

    This Amendment established the prohibition of alcoholic beverages. The 18th Amendment was the only amendment in the US contitution to be repealed. It was repealed since regular people found different ways to aquire alcohol many criminals made lots of money for selling it.
  • 19th Amendment

    This Amendment granted American women the right to vote. President Wild row Wilson supported the women's suffrage movement. The law was passed by Congress on June 4 1919.
  • Urbanization

    Urbanization was the gradual increase in the proportion of people living in urban areas.This caused more areas to become city's and less areas of rural ground. Half of the worlds population was of people who lived in urbanized areas.
  • Tea Pot Dome Scandal

    This scandal was a bribery incident during president Warren's administration. This became synonymous with government corruption and the scandals arising out of the administration of President Warren G. Harding.
  • Immigration & the American Dream

    The American Dream was the belief that life has more opportunities in america to be rich and happy.This sparked a huge increase in immigrant who were looking to better their lives. This caused Americas population to boom and created more diversity
  • Civil Service Reform

    The Civil Service Reform established that positions within the federal government should be awarded on the basis of merit instead of political affiliation. The Reform refers to movements for the improvement of the Civil Service.
