French and Indian War
The French and Indian War was also called the seven years war. But, lasted nine years if you count the battles before the war was officially declared. More deaths happened during this war, then in the whole revolutionary war. Like many wars, this war was fought over money. -
Treaty of Paris (End of Rev. War)
The Treaty of Paris was the treaty between America and England. They treaty settled the disputes between England and America about land, officially declared America as a free nation, independent from Britain and officially ended the Revolutionary War. -

The Northwest Ordinance was passed July 13, 1787. It provided rules for governing the Northwest territories and was the reason the Ohio Land Company was started. -

The United States only had a small part of land in the 1800's. The French had a lot of territory and were in need of money. President Thomas Jefferson made a deal and bought Louisiana from the French. -

The Lewis and Clark Expedition was an expedition that was put together to explore and find a water route across the continent, which they could now do because of their purchase of the Louisiana Territory. -
Oregon Trail
The Oregon Trail was the most popular route for traveling westward. The trail was not just used to get to Oregon. The trail was used in some other trails route for some of their journey: The Mormon Trail, and the California Trail. -
War of 1812
The War of 1812 was a conflict between France and England. (They are constantly fighting!) It was know as Mr. Madison's War and in November, Madison, in an attempt to keep America neutral in the war, stopped trade with both countries, but that drained many American's income and was bad for the nation so he repealed it quickly. -
Missouri Compromise
The Missouri Compromise was about slavery in the West. It forbid slavery in the old Louisiana Territory area except in the state of Missouri. -
Monroe Doctrine
The Monroe Doctrine said the United States wouldn't tolerate European countries trying to get new lands in the Western Hemisphere, and if a country did, then the United States would declare war. -
Indian Removal Act and Trail of Tears
The Indian Removal Act was an act passed by President Jackson that mad the natives move from their land, to the west into Oklahoma. The act was passed by Jackson but was enforced by Van Buren. The natives were torn out of their homes and were forced down the Trail of Tears. Instead of the planned area of land, most of the natives settled in Texas. They were treated brutally and many natives died. -
Manifest Destiny
Manifest Destiny was a belief that it was our God given right to stretch from coast to coast. It was first mentioned in 1845 in an issue of the United States Magazine, and Democratic Review. -
Mexican-American War
The Mexican-American war was the first war that America fought that wasn't on their own land. The war was fought because the belief of Manifest Destiny (the belief that it was our God-given right to expand westward and stretch from coast to coast) -
California Gold Rush
The California Gold Rush happened when gold was found in California. It was one of the reasons the Transcontinental Railroad was built. -

The Transcontinental Railroad was built because the California Gold Rush. It took 3 years to build with three different companies building it. It made traveling westward much easier and allowed the expansion west to be safer and quicker.
