Eli Whitney's Cotton Gin
Eli Whitney created the Cotton Gin in 1763 to make separating the fiber from the seeds more efficiently and effectively. This invention was crucial not only because it cut the time to produce useable cotton, but it allowed for the beginning of industrialism and inventions. Soon after Whitney continued creating inventions and he ended up inventing interchangeable parts which also allowed a huge step forward in the industrial pathway America was following. -
Missouri Compromise
The Missouri Compromise in 1820 was created by Congress to figure out if Missouri should be a free or a slave state. Congress wanted to have balanced slave and free states so in order to do so, they declared Maine as a free state and Missouri as a slave one. However, the compromise only lasted a little while before it failed due to tensions. -
Nat Turner's Rebellion
Nat Turner's Rebellion had a huge impact on America. It is one of the largest slave rebellions ever in the US. Nat Turner allowed for the voice of anti-slavery to spread. During this rebellion, about 120 slaves and free African Americans were killed including himself. This had a huge impact on people. Moreover, because of this rebellion, there were new laws implemented to limit activities of slaves to make sure that another rebellion wasn't going to occur again. -
Mexican-American War
The Mexican-American War began due to several reasons but some of them were because of America's eagerness for California and some Mexican territories and the US annexation of Texas. The war ended with a win for the US and a treaty called the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo was signed. -
Seneca Falls Convention
The importance of the Seneca Falls Convention was to gain women's rights. Women united to speak out for equality of social status legal rights, and the right to vote. They wanted their voices to be heard to hopefully create some change that involved women's rights and how the equality of man and women should become a thing. Moreover, about 200 women showed up and it was lead by Lucretia Mott and Elizabeth Cady Stanton. -
Compromise of 1850
The Compromise of 1850 was created in place of the Missouri Compromise that had failed. Moreover, this compromise allowed the south to strengthen the fugitive slave law while the north was given California as a free state. Even though Texas also lost land, they were given 10 million dollars to compensate. Lastly, slavery was not banned but the slave trade was in Washington DC.
