    Lewis and Clark Expedition
    Summery: After puchasing the the Louisiana territory, Thomas Jefferson sent Meriwether Lewis and William Clark on an expedition to explore the new land. Impact on Native Americans: Lewis' and Clark's encounters with the several Native American tribes that occupied the new land were passive, the tribes often offered them assistance in their endeavour through America. Jefferson's main intention for exploring this land was so Lewis and Clark could relay back information regarding the Indians.

  • Indian Removal Act

    Indian Removal Act
    Summery: On May 28th an act was passed by Congress which authorized Andrew Jackson to negotiate with Indian tribes for their relocation. Impact on Native Americans: This act resulted in the forced relocation on the Native Americans. While some tribes resisted, some went peacefuly. About 4,000 members of these tribes died during the forced march west to their new homes.
  • 2nd Seminole War

    2nd Seminole War
    Summery: The 2nd act in the Seminole Wars, and one of the most brutal, resulting in massive deaths and destruction. This war happened because of the U.S's attempts at forcing them to relocate to Indian Territory. Impact on Native Americans: While they had the upper hand for awhile in the begining, this war ended tragically for the Indians. It is approximatated that around 1,000 Indian men were killed in the process and they were, in the end, forced to relocate.
  • Mexican-American War

    Mexican-American War
    Summery: This war engaged due to the differences the U.S. and The Mexican Republic saw in whos territory Texas was. This resulted in an all out war between the two, in the end the U.S. forces were able to claim Texas and the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo was signed. Impact on Native Americans: While the government was strict, the Mexican Republic allowed more flexibility with the Indians compared to the U.S. Now that the U.S had gained the territory, the Indians of that land were now controlled.
  • California Gold Rush

    California Gold Rush
    Summery: James W. Marshall found an over abundance of gold at Sutter's Mill in California. When news spread out, thousands of people assimilated in the effort to claim this gold. Impact on Native Americans: Native Americans, being dependent on hunting, were affected heavly when miners came in; they destroyed and polluted the land, this faced the Indians with starvation. Miners would also attack the Indians and their territory because they thought they were in the way.
  • Wounded Knee Massacre

    Wounded Knee Massacre
    Summery: The U.S. 7th Calvary Regiment intercepted a group of Native Americans after the Sioux have given themselves. During the confiscation of the Native American's weapons, conflict happened causing the Indians to fire at the Americans, this then triggered the all out massacre. Impact on Native Americans: This massacre forced Indians to relocate from the land they settled in, again. In the process about 300 Indians were murdered; 90 men, 200 women and children, and 57 wounded. (7 fatally).
