Louisana Purchase
While Thomas Jeffferson was president of the United States in 1803, he purchased a huge piece of land from the French. This purschase doubled the size of the United States. -
British Cession
The Britsh Cession was also known as The Red River Cession or The Treaty of 1818. The Britsh and United States establiished the boundry between the United States and Canada. -
Adams-Onis
This treaty was also refered to as The Florida Treaty, it fixed the United State's western boundry. -
Texas Annexation
While Polk was president, Texas asked to become part of the United States. Right after Texas became part of the United Staes, Mexico declared war on the United States. -
Mexican Cession
Mexico agreed to give up Texas to the United States, which ended the Mexican-American War. This land included all of the present-day states of California, Nevada, Utah and also parts of Arizona, Colorado, New Mexico, Utah, and Wyoming. -
Gadsen Purchase
The Gadsen Pruchase was an agreement bewteen the United States and Mexico. The United States paid Mexico $10 million dollars for a portion of Mexico, which later becomes Arizona and New Mexico. -
Oregon Territory
The southwest of the terriory became part of the Union as the state of Oregon. The remaining land is parts of present day Washington, Idaho, and portions of Montana.
