Reign of Ivan the Terrible
From 1547 to 1560 was Ivan's "good" period. After Anastasia died his "bad" period began and accused the Boyars of poisoning his wife. He killed his oldest son and heir which started the Time of Troubles. -

St. Bartholomew's Day Massacre
The massacre lasted several weeks and was a turning point of the French Wars of Religion. The number of dead varies from 5,000 to as many as 30,000 according to modern estimates. -
Cardinal Richelieu
In effect, he became the ruler of France under the weakling Louis XIII. He was a strong minister and wanted France to become the most powerful state in Europe. The Hapsburgs were his greatest obstacle. -
Peace of Westphalia
This treaty ended the Thirty Years War between the Hapsburgs and France. It weakened the Hapsburg states of Spain and Autria and strengthened France by awarding it German territory. -

The bloodless overthrow of King James II because he was violating English law by appointing Catholics to High Office. -
English Bill of Rights
No suspending of Parliaments laws. No levying of taxes without a specific grant of Parliament. No penalty for a citizen who petitions the king about grievances. England becomes a constitutional monarchy.
