    Fall of the Roman Empire

    Fall of the Roman Empire
    Odoacer, a German barbarian took control of Rome and forced Romulus Augustulus, the last emperor of Rome, to give up his crown. Along with the fall of Rome, there were many changes to Europe. Most of Europe fell into barbarianism and began to lose its strong government, education, and culture. The next 500 years after that would be considered as the Dark Ages of Europe.

    The Middle Ages

    The middle ages resulted from the fall of the Roman Empire. This was a time where castles, cathedrals, guilds, and crusades were built. Major events such as the Black Plague and the rise of Islam occurred and great leaders rose to power.

    Crusades

    The Crusades were a series of wars taken place during the Middle Ages. European Christians tried to take control of Jerusalem and the Holy Land from the Muslims. The Crusades were between the armies of Europe and the Arabs, who had control of Jerusalem. The armies were made up of knights, peasants, and other commoners.

    The Renaissance was a period of time where there was a rebirth in education, science, art, literature, music, and a better life for people. The Renaissance began in Italy and then spread to other countries. A reason it began was the Fall of the Roman Empire.

    The Reformation was a divide in the Catholic Church where Protestantism was created. More people began to read and study the Bible. A monk named Martin Luther studied and made agreements and disagreements about the Catholic Church. Europe began to separate from the Catholic Church.

    The Industrial Revolution was a time when manufacturing goods moved to large factories. People began to move to big cities in search for jobs. The Industrial Revolution began in Great Britain during the 1700s. It lasted for over 100 years and spread over to the United States.

    The French Revolution began when revolutionaries "stormed" a prison called the Bastille. The French government was a constant turmoil and the Third Estate ended up taking control of the country.     WWI
    WWI was fought between the Allied and Central Powers. The main reason for the start of WWI was the assassination of Franz Ferdinand. A lot of the war was fought using trench warfare along the western front. More than 65 million men fought in the war and there were many injuries and deaths. The war came to an end with the signing of the Treaty of Versailles in 1918.

The Warsaw Pact was the rival alliance and both these alliances were active during the Cold War.

    The Berlin Wall was built to separate Germany into East and West Germany, making it two separate countries. People began to leave Berlin and the wall was eventually taken down after President Ronald Regan gave a speech in Berlin where he asked the leader of the Soviet Union, Mikhail Gorbachev, to take down the wall.
