Lewis and Clark
Meriwether Lewis was President Ben Franklin's friend. Ben wanted the lands west of Mississippi explored. This was called a expedition. Lewis wanted another friend to come lead with Him. This man was William Clark. When they got to Lolo Pass on their journey they had been running out of food. They only had a gross soup and candles. They men now have a trail named after them. Lots of people today hike on the lolo pass trail and the Lewis and Clark trail. -
Trail of Tears
Andrew Jackson once had an Indian removal policy. And that meant that the Cherokee Nation was forced to give up their lands. And move to Oklahoma. The tribe called this the Trail of the Tears because it was a hard time. They faced lots of problems. -
Gold Rush
The gold rush is when lots of Gold was found in Alaska. Lots of people from around the world came to find gold. Once there was no more people left. Some with gold and some with lost dreams. -
Pony Express
In 1860 people made a new travel for mail. They now used horses and ponies to get mail to people. If they had to travel 3,000 miles they would. It was a better way for mail. -
Homestead Act
The homestead act was acted during the Civil War in 1862. It provided for any adult citizen or intended citizen that had never borne against the US government. It would claim that the person could claim 160 acres that was surveyed by the Government land.
